about
This is second release in the 10-track series 'Signs of Life' by Lines of Flight and is released on MH|HW Music.
Helen says, "This song is a reflection on a period of time spent living on a small island, away from the city and everything I knew. It’s about finding escape and solace in a new place and relationship, and the attempts to weave myself into the fabric of a life wholly different from everything I’d known before. It also charts the difficulty in doing just that, and how life can gradually tear at the seams of everything you’ve created with someone. And you begin to move away from each other, and the ties you’ve created start to erode. Ultimately, it offers a contemplative look at the past; it can be something to look fondly back on, rather than something to lament."
lyrics
You gave me a place to hide from the noise of a downtown life.
Some way to escape the wrestling, spiralling inside my mind.
An island, a seascape, that cradled us in space and time.
And with those strands we began
To tie them fast, to weave and dart
Together.
Bound to last,
Our shared heart.
Time also erodes and frays, the fabric of us began to fade.
Moth-eaten, we’re stood in this ‘always’ place, as it fell into the sea.
Your change in tone, my change of tack,
I’m not sorry enough, you won’t take it back.
I’m torn from the shores, couldn’t cease the collapse,
I won’t be tied, I’d rather be
Anchor-less, an indolent craft.
Drift detached and depart our shared heart
Now you’re here in my dream,
Time’s unstitched seams.
Recall moth eaten memories, incomplete.
How different it could have been,
How different in dreams.
A place in time, still a part of me.
A life apart, held fast in our shared heart,
In out moth eaten heart
