about

This is track 9 of the 10-track release series "Signs of Life"
The song focus is that in times of acute stress one coping mechanism looking back on past experiences - it’s why people contact lost loves etc; as a way to validate the choices made? So if it were all to end, there’s a sense that we did OK, or at least the bad decisions didn’t have lasting ramifications. Sometimes to say what we really wanted to at the time but didn’t have the courage to, and we’re now spurred on by an existential force. Hopefully, I hope I was a good friend.

lyrics

Analogue summers, when the sun never seemed to go down.
Futures so abundant, they weren’t something talked about.
But then your voice on that call made an arresting sound.
Oh, the words stopped me dead then but it’s the feeling that halts me now.
Please don’t say you’re going to let me down.

Suspended sentences: silence speaks.
So loud.
If everything made sense, there’d be nothing to think about.
That is not one crumb of comfort to me now.
Old-man-wisdom rarely falls from a young man’s mouth.
I know that I am going to let you down

The broken hearted policed the gathering crowds.
There’s no rhyme or reason here, to why I made it out.
So, we promised to never forget,
A tie to what was left, we bound.
A hopeful flower planted in barren ground

I was always going to let you down.
I was always going
I was always gone
Always gone.
